Welcome To the City of Rensselaer Police Department
 
The Rensselaer Police Department responds to the needs of the citizens of Rensselaer.  The officers patrol the city to ensure the safety of the citizens and to respond to calls for services and reports of criminal activity.  The Rensselaer Police Department can respond to these calls with patrol cars or the bike patrol.

CHIEF OF POLICE, Matthew A. Anderson

Chief Matthew A. Anderson

On December 27, 2017, Chief of Police, Matthew A. Anderson was officially sworn in by Mayor Wood, to begin his service on January 01, 2018.  Anderson, an 18-year veteran, began his service with the City of Rensselaer Police Department in November of 1998 as a dispatcher.  On June 14, 1999, he was sworn in as a full-time police officer by former Chief of Police, William T. Sammons.  In December of 2016, Matthew Anderson was promoted to Lieutenant by former Chief of Police, Jeffrey S. Phillips
