The primary function of the Clerk-Treasurer, an elected official, is to serve as fiscal officer for the City of Rensselaer. The Clerk-Treasurer appoints deputies to serve in the capacity as the Clerk-Treasurer.

There are currently two (2) deputies. Marcia Mathew or Linda DeMoss will greet you at the Clerk's Office. Linda has the responsibility of processing the numerous claims that are turned in to be paid. Marcia has the responsibility of processing the payroll for all of the City employees. Both Linda and Marcia have the capabilities to run the office in the absence of Frieda. The Clerk's office is responsible to receive and disburse monies, keep all financial records, maintain custody of these records, attend and record all proceedings of meetings of the Council, issue permits and licenses, and serve as the human resources department of the City of Rensselaer. The Clerk-Treasurer also administers oaths and maintains custody of the City Seal.
