Superintendents’ Meeting

June 23, 2008

The Superintendents’ meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. in the conference room at City Hall. Those in attendance were: Marilyn Eckholm, Donna Cochran, Mayor Arihood, Tom Phegley, Claude Grow, Frieda Bretzinger, Kenny Haun, Chief Phillips, Ron DeMoss, Mike Murphy, Joe Effinger, Buddy McElroy, and Carol Lockridge.

Bretzinger: Working on next year’s budgeting and waiting for information from the county. This is payroll week. Since the next council meeting has been moved up, a notice will be sent out to the superintendents changing the due date for the claims.

Cochran: There will be a committee meeting Tuesday, June 24th at the power plant at 9:30 a.m to discuss the generation transmission line. Kerry Vincent from ISC will be here to present their plans. Have been working with Donaldson’s on a possible donation for Rensselaer.

DeMoss: Nothing for council tonight but there is a cemetery deed to present to council for consideration. Been busy with mowing and appreciated Joe spraying for mosquitoes.

Eckholm: Their office is working on collections and budget billing applications. Due to the increased number of budget customers they will be extending the sign up for one (1) month. Employee reviews have been completed and vacations are coming to an end.

Effinger: Ball season is winding down. He has been working with Heritage Office to order trophies for the teams. The pool has been in good operating conditions. The Tuesday and Thursday evening swimming has been popular. Denny Graf had the water conditioner firm go over and review the conditions of the pool. Joe felt he had some good ideas for improving the water conditioning and will work with him in the near future for improvements. It was suggested the park install motion lights for better security as well as leave the lighting already there. This is to help discourage evening entrance to the pool when they are closed. Joe received a call from a resident at Houston Subdivision that was asking about mosquito control. Joe sprayed that evening and the resident greatly appreciated the extra effort.

Grow: With cooler weather, the plant has not been doing a lot of generating. Busy working on vehicle maintenance and flagging for the linemen while they are working on 114 East.

Haun: Tuesday evening will be a BZA hearing for a Bed and Breakfast. July the Plan Commission will meet to adopt the subdivision zoning plan. Met with the architect for Jasper County Hospital and will be scheduling a technical review for the superintendents as soon as he receives information.

Lockridge (Carol): Cintas has installed the first aid kits and she will be ordering cases for the AED’s. Donna has the email address for Cintas if anyone has a need to contact the sales department. Received the names for the next drug testing in two (2) months.

McElroy: Need to raise a 4” gas line on Melville Street for the construction. Waiting for further instructions as they near that point. There are a minimal number of service lines that need relocated as well. Have some service lines to install. Preparing to begin installing lines at Sunset Ridge.

Murphy: Summer help has been busy with brush and work is good. Have a sanitation truck down and being worked on now. Preparing to install a new sanitary line on West Vine. Will be discussing the contract with the county for recycling.

Phegley: Will be connecting the power for the new jail Tuesday. Poles at the corner of Melville and 114 East are being removed today. Will return to working on Harrison Street to convert the 2400 line. Chief Phillips said a street light needs to be replaced on the southeast corner of the bridge on Grace Street. Pole number 223. Murphy asked Phegley if his crew could trip some trees that are interfering with their sanitation trucks. Murphy will prepare a list of needed trimmings.

Chief Phillips: Getting ready for Taste of Rensselaer and Cruise Night. The two (2) new officers have completed their pre-basic schooling and will be riding with officers for continued schooling.

Mayor Arihood: Contacted Senator Hershmann concerning the intersection of 114 East and Melville Street. The LaPorte district has informed Rensselaer they will not be doing the work at the intersection and it would behoove everyone to do all the work at the same time while under construction. Waiting for the Senator to research and get back with him. There is a Council Meeting scheduled for tonight at 4:00.

The meeting adjourned at 9:00 a.m.
