"Back Home Again in Rensselaer"
Mayoral Proclamation
"Celebrate May & The Indianapolis 500"
On May 2nd, 2012, Stephan A. Wood, Mayor of the City of Rensselaer Proclaimed May as a time for our community to celebrate the Indianapolis 500 and our links to "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing". Rensselaer is competing with several other communities in Indiana for a chance to be chosen by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's 2012 "Back Home Again in Indiana" Community Outreach Program to receive a $20,000 grant. The song "Back Home Again in Indiana" was composed by Rensselaer's native son, James F. Hanley in 1917. The James F. Hanley Park, located at the corner of Washington and Front Streets in our City was dedicated to honor the location of his birthplace. The historic site includes a State historic marker flanked by brick columns, with limestone caps and iron fence and bench. So, join Mayor Wood and celebrate the month of May as we anticipate "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" on May 27, 2012.
