STATE OF THE CITY - January 13, 2010

Mayor Herbert H. Arihood addresses the Rensselaer Chamber of Commerce during the Chamber's luncheon meeting held at Clauss Bakery.
The Mayor expressed many positive facts for the Rensselaer community:

The City has grown 20% since 2000 from a population of 5260 to 6500
-
Annexation of over 750 acres
-
Utility rates that rank in lower 25% of the State of Indiana averages
-
2008 Designated as a "Tree City"
-
Received over $10 million in grant assistance monies
-
2 major industrial parks w/shovel ready area
-
Considered for six tentative major projects for economic stimulus funding: Ball State University Database
-
22 improvement projects ongoing currently - Wastewater Treatment Plant expansion, Melville Phase II, Walking Bridge Construction, JC Fairgrounds Annexation, TIF Area expansion - to name a few.
The Mayor said, "Our future direction for growth is moving west toward I-65 and if we do not keep our community viable for living in the twenty-first century, we will face the reality of falling back to a lesser level of existence."
